What Is A Smile Makeover?

A Smile Makeover is the combination of at least two different cosmetic dental procedures focusing on different areas you may not be happy with, such as straightening and whitening treatments or fixing chips and cracks within your teeth. With a Smile Makeover at Space Dental, our dentists will craft a bespoke treatment plan which is built entirely around you, taking into account your current oral health, smile goals and dental history.

What Treatments Are Included With A Smile Makeover?

As each Smile Makeover is completely unique and bespoke, the treatments included will vary from patient to patient. There are, however, some cosmetic dental treatments which are more commonly included within a Smile Makeover, such as clear aligners, teeth whitening, composite bonding and, in some cases, dental veneers.

For patients interested in a Smile Makeover, we’ll invite you for a consultation so that we can carry out an assessment of your teeth and current oral health, plus the results you wish to achieve, as this will help our dentists suggest the best treatments for your plan.

You may visit us thinking you’d like teeth straightening treatment, when in fact a combination of other treatments will get you better results, in a shorter time frame. Perhaps you have already had orthodontic treatment and have straight teeth, but want to enhance the whiteness or alter the shape. With a Smile Makeover, we can discuss the best combination of treatments and give you an idea of the results they will achieve.

Preparation For A Smile Makeover

Before we start your Smile Makeover treatment, we’ll ask you to visit us for a check up where we can assess the health of your mouth, teeth and gums. This is so we can ensure that you’re in the best possible position to start treatment. Depending on the treatments recommended as part of your Smile Makeover, it may be that you need to undergo some general dental work beforehand, or perhaps have a hygienist appointment. This ensures that your mouth feels fresher and your smile is cleaner.

How Long Will Treatment Take?

The length of treatment for each patient’s Smile Makeover will differ as this is dependent on the individual treatments involved with their Smile Makeover treatment plan. For example, a patient who is having a combination of teeth whitening and composite bonding will see the final results in just a few months, however, for Smile Makeovers where orthodontics are involved, this will increase the length of time it takes. During your initial consultation, the expected duration of your treatment will be assessed and explained by your dentist.

A large majority of patients find that they are suitable for a Smile Makeover, however, there are a small number of patients who may not be suitable. Before each Smile Makeover, we carry out a full oral health assessment to ensure that you are suitable for treatment.

We may recommend that you have some general dental work, such as fillings, completed before starting your treatment or visit our hygienists to ensure your teeth are fully clean and healthy beforehand. There is no age limit for Smile Makeovers, so long as you are in current good oral health and can safely undergo the treatments recommended.
The duration of your Smile Makeover will depend on the number of different treatments you are choosing to have, as well as the type. If you are planning on making quite extensive changes to your smile with veneers, for example, then this will take longer than if you were having composite bonding and teeth whitening. Some Smile Makeovers require just one or two appointments, whilst others might require months of treatments. This can be discussed further during your consultation, where once we’ve outlined the treatments that would be suited to your Smile Makeover, we can discuss treatment duration, too.
Depending on the combination of treatments you choose to have as part of your Smile Makeover, some treatments may be more uncomfortable than overs in terms of recovery. However, we ensure that no treatment is painful for the duration of the time you are sitting in the chair and we aim to make each and every patient fully comfortable.

Due to the nature of the treatments, it is unlikely that those typically used for Smile Makeovers are painful as they are mostly non-invasive treatments. You may, instead, experience aches or discomfort from things such as having new clear aligners or following a crown fitting, which can be treated with painkillers.
The duration to which the results of a Smile Makeover last is dependent on the treatments you are having. During your consultation, we will always recommend the best treatments to provide you with the best and longest-lasting results. Certain treatments, such as teeth straightening, dental implants and veneers, involve permanent changes, whilst teeth whitening and composite bonding have results which last a few years. Our team will always be upfront and honest as to how long your results will last and give you all the information you need in order to make a desired decision.
