Our dental implant surgeon will work with you to find out more about your smile goals and provide you with advice on the best treatment, suited and tailored to you.

Whats the difference between single & full dental implants?

When you have one or more missing teeth, dental implants are an ideal solution to restoring a full smile. Single and full dental implants not only look amazing, but they function just like natural teeth - meaning that you can chew, smile and talk without any worries!

But, what is the difference between single and full dental implants? Simply put, single dental implants are used where there are one or two missing teeth, whereas full dental implants are recommended for patients who have multiple missing teeth along the top, bottom or both jaws.

Why choose Space Dental?

Our award-winning team are not only passionate about teeth, but about achieving fantastic results for our patients. We’re focused on making your teeth look amazing, however, we do this without sacrificing your dental health.

Our mission here at Space Dental is to preserve the natural health and state of your teeth and gums, without the need for extensive dentistry in the future. If you’re interested in single and full dental implants, we’ll do all that we can to maintain your natural teeth first, before jumping straight in with implants.

If we find that single or full dental implants are required or are the best treatment option, your treatment will be carried out in a luxury and comforting dental clinic, with friendly and welcoming staff who are dedicated to giving you a 5-star dental experience, right from your initial consultation through to your treatment aftercare.

What to expect during your consultation for single & full dental implants

If you’re interested in single or full dental implants, or are simply looking for a solution to tooth loss, we’ll invite you in for a consultation. During this consultation, our implant surgeon will take a look at your teeth and work out what option is best suited for you, as well as discuss the goals you want to achieve. Typically, if you have individual missing teeth that are surrounded by healthy teeth on either side, a single dental implant would be recommended. For more serious tooth loss cases, or if you suffer from other dental issues such as tooth decay, full dental implants may be the best treatment for you.

If you’re happy with the treatment suggested, then we can provide further information on the proposed treatment plan, as well as discuss payment options and treatment costs. We offer flexible payment options so that all of our patients have access to getting the smile they have in mind.

This consultation is simply our chance to get to know you better and find out what you want to achieve from single or full dental implant treatment, as well as give you the chance to ask questions about the treatment, costs and payment options. When you’re happy to go ahead with either single or full dental implants, we’ll get you booked in for your appointments and go from there!

Dental implants use a titanium screw which acts as a replacement for the roots of your teeth. To this screw, a prosthetic tooth (also known as a crown) which is matched to the colour and shape of our existing teeth is attached, replacing missing teeth. After the implant has been fitted, the bone surrounding it will begin to gradually fuse with the metal which keeps the implant firmly in place.

No matter if you are interested in single or full dental implants, they are used as a more permanent replacement for dentures and plates and are a more reliable treatment for tooth loss. The metal implants are placed into your jawbone and over the top of the fixing, one of our dental clinicians will add white composite bonding (similar to a filling) so that, when placed, you won’t be able to see or feel the implants.
We understand that the thought of treatment for single and full dental implants sounds painful, but throughout the procedure, the implant area will be completely numb. At times, you may feel some pressure, but this shouldn’t cause you any discomfort. Following the procedure, once the anaesthetic wears off, you will likely experience a dull ache for 3-5 days, but this can be easily managed with painkillers.
Both single and full dental implants are designed to be a permanent solution to tooth loss, therefore they do last for a long time. On average, dental implants can last anywhere between 20-30 years with proper oral hygiene care and regular dental checkups. There are some factors which may affect how long your dental implants last, for example, if you regularly chew hard food, smoke or have certain medical conditions, these can all affect how long your dental implants last.

We recommend that you visit your Space Dental dentist for a checkup every 6 months so that we can check your overall oral health and monitor how your dental implants are healing.
If you are missing one or multiple teeth, then you are already a suitable candidate for single and full dental implants. However, some patients may also require some additional requirements before being eligible for treatment. This is because, when you lose a tooth, the bone surrounding the root can begin to deteriorate and, in order for single and full dental implants to be successful, you need enough bone to be able to support the implant.

Depending on how long your tooth has been missing, it may be that you no longer have enough bone for implants. Under some circumstances, a bone graft may be recommended, but this is recommended on a case by case basis. Some medical conditions may also mean that you aren’t eligible for single or full dental implant treatment.
When it comes to tooth loss and tooth replacement options, single and full dental implants are often the most popular choice. However, each patient is different and, for some patients, dental implants simply may not be the right choice. If you need a solution to tooth loss, then there are some alternatives to dental implants, such as dentures and fixed dental bridges.
