Dental Composite Bonding?
Dental composite bonding is usually used for filling chips, fractures or gaps between teeth, or for fixing discolouration. A composite resin, similar to that used for dental fillings, is attached to the affected tooth and shaped to restore its original appearance. The colour of the resin is matched to your teeth, so it will appear as though it is a natural part of the tooth. This treatment is completely pain-free and is non-invasive, with the ability to transform your smile in just one appointment!
With dental composite bonding, no permanent changes are made to your natural teeth. Instead, our dentists alter the appearance of your tooth using the composite filling, which is cured using UV light and can be removed in the future, should you decide you wish to return to your natural teeth. How Does
Composite Bonding Work?
With dental composite bonding, the resin is delicately affixed to the tooth’s enamel and shaped to restore the tooth’s original appearance or achieve the desired corrections. The colour of the resin is seamlessly matched to your natural teeth, ensuring the bonding appears as though it is a natural part of the tooth.
A curing light is applied to the resin allowing your dentist to shape and mould this to the natural shape of your tooth. This hardens the composite bonding resin, setting this into place. Once the process is complete, composite bonding resin is indistinguishable from the natural tooth enamel, making dental composite bonding a discreet and non-invasive choice for those looking to correct small imperfections in their teeth.

This is so that your dentist can arrange the appointment to whiten your teeth first, then then the follow-up appointment for your dental composite bonding treatment, which can be matched to your new, whiter smile. It is important to note that, once composite bonding is in place and has been adhered to your tooth, the material cannot be whitened.
Avoid biting nails or chewing hard items, such as pen lids, which could chip or damage the composite bonding material. Dental composite bonding, although strong, isn’t as strong as natural enamel, so it is important to take precautions where possible. As well as this, brushing your teeth at least twice a day, plus keeping up with your dental checkup and hygiene appointments, will help your composite bonding remain unstained.
Veneers, which are thin custom-made moulds made from composite or porcelain material, can be used to hide bigger gaps in teeth where orthodontic treatments aren’t recommended as well as heavy staining or larger chips.
Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps which are placed on top of the visible portion of a tooth and will function just like a natural tooth. These alternatives, however, do require preparation and some permanent changes to the tooth. They are also more expensive in terms of treatment cost compared to dental composite bonding.
