Dental implants use a titanium screw which acts as a replacement for the roots of your teeth. To this screw, a prosthetic tooth (also known as a crown) which is matched to the colour and shape of our existing teeth is attached, replacing missing teeth. After the implant has been fitted, the bone surrounding it will begin to gradually fuse with the metal which keeps the implant firmly in place.

No matter if you are interested in single or full dental implants, they are used as a more permanent replacement for dentures and plates and are a more reliable treatment for tooth loss. The metal implants are placed into your jawbone and over the top of the fixing, one of our dental clinicians will add white composite bonding (similar to a filling) so that, when placed, you won’t be able to see or feel the implants.
We understand that the thought of treatment for single and full dental implants sounds painful, but throughout the procedure, the implant area will be completely numb. At times, you may feel some pressure, but this shouldn’t cause you any discomfort. Following the procedure, once the anaesthetic wears off, you will likely experience a dull ache for 3-5 days, but this can be easily managed with painkillers.
Both single and full dental implants are designed to be a permanent solution to tooth loss, therefore they do last for a long time. On average, dental implants can last anywhere between 20-30 years with proper oral hygiene care and regular dental checkups. There are some factors which may affect how long your dental implants last, for example, if you regularly chew hard food, smoke or have certain medical conditions, these can all affect how long your dental implants last.

We recommend that you visit your Space Dental dentist for a checkup every 6 months so that we can check your overall oral health and monitor how your dental implants are healing.
If you are missing one or multiple teeth, then you are already a suitable candidate for single and full dental implants. However, some patients may also require some additional requirements before being eligible for treatment. This is because, when you lose a tooth, the bone surrounding the root can begin to deteriorate and, in order for single and full dental implants to be successful, you need enough bone to be able to support the implant.

Depending on how long your tooth has been missing, it may be that you no longer have enough bone for implants. Under some circumstances, a bone graft may be recommended, but this is recommended on a case by case basis. Some medical conditions may also mean that you aren’t eligible for single or full dental implant treatment.
When it comes to tooth loss and tooth replacement options, single and full dental implants are often the most popular choice. However, each patient is different and, for some patients, dental implants simply may not be the right choice. If you need a solution to tooth loss, then there are some alternatives to dental implants, such as dentures and fixed dental bridges.
